Choosing Vertical Blinds - Which Provide the Best Value for Rental Properties?

If you manage rental properties, you know that replacing blinds is something that frequently happens after tenant moveouts.  Broken slats or inoperable blinds add to landlord costs.  But, that’s no reason to avoid blinds - often window coverings provide the privacy that tenants desire, while still allowing natural light in when opened.

When selecting blinds, ensure you’re getting good value by focusing on durability and ease of replacement.  Here are a few tips I share with landlords:

Select Blinds with Good Longevity & Consider Ease of Repair

  • Go for simple white PVC: These blinds are the most common available today, and the color is easily matched.  They are readily available at most hardware stores.  If a couple of the slats are broken, finding a match is easy!

  • Opt for wand control instead of cords: Wands tend to be safer and less likely to break or tangle.
